7x7 Day 4: Cooking Project - Antiaphrodisiac Foods
My project for Day 4 is the most interesting thing so far: A cooking project. Yeay! One of the thing I love with these 7x7 projects is that there are no boundaries and there's no right or wrong, so we can actually come up with fun ideas of doing things that we love the most, including cooking.
So I started thinking about the theme, and I came up with this "Anti-aphrodisiac Foods". Next thing I know, I made a shopping list, my dear friend lend me her kitchen, and we're having one of the BEST meal worth $22, restaurant-quality :p. Yes, thank God my recipe worked!
"PAN-SEARED STEAK WITH ASIAN FUSION SALAD" by Umi
Sirloin steak strips with edamame, tofu, tempeh & mixed greens salad with soy sesame dressing topped with crunchy corn flakes. Preparation time: 20 mins. Cooking time: 10 mins.
INGREDIENTS:
Best piece of Sirloin you can afford
Cooked Edamame
Cooked Sweet Corn
Tofu, cubed & fried
Tempeh, cubed & fried
Mixed salad greens
Cherry tomatoes
Mint & Cilantro, chopped
Corn Flakes
SAUCE:
Soy sauce
A few drops of Sesame oil
Rice vinegar
Blood orange juice
A dash of Honey
Fresh Blackpepper
(I usually get confused with measurements so I always cook by intuition, so sorry I can't give more detail about the units. Haha :D)
HOW TO:
- Make sure your steak is in room temperature. Season them nicely with salt & pepper.
- Heat a medium iron-cast skillet or a grilling pan over high heat, add olive oil, swirl to coat.
- Pan-sear each side of the steak for 2.5 minutes (normally this will get you a medium-rare to medium result, depending on the thickness), flip it only once. Rest for 5 minutes before cutting. After that, cut into 1-inch thick strips and set aside.
- Stir and whisk all of the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Mix all of the salad ingredients, add the sauce, toss to coat.
- Start plating. Distribute steak strips evenly to the bed of salad, drizzle steak with the dressing and you’re good to go!
But it didn't stop there. After finished cooking I came up with the idea of making a poster to explain what the aphrodisiac foods are, along with the recipe. And so... I made this tabloid-sized infographic containing fun facts:
I really enjoyed making this project, it excites me knowing that my recipe actually works & having someone praised your cooking, haha. Thanks Yeyoung for providing honest feedback! Cheers.
